2.21.4 Diesel Gen Set

2 Nos of diesel generator each of 250 KVA capacity shall be installed in the industry to meet the emergency needs during power failure and as start up power. The genset is provided with vibration absorption pads at the foundation and muffler to the exhaust pipe to reduce the noise level. The unit is located in acoustic shed. The salient data of each d. g. set is given below:

Capacity

:

250 KVA

Diesel consumption

:

50 lit / hr

Sulphur content in diesel

:

1 %

Chimney size

:

Approx. 150 mm dia & 5.0 m above roof level.

Diesel storage tank

:

20 KL capacity u. g. M. S. tank

The height of each stack, H in meters is given by,

H= h_0.2 (KVA) 0,5

= H+0.2 (250) 0.5

=H+4

H = height of roof level of d.g. room in meters.

2.22   SOLID WASTE AND ITS DISPOSAL

The solid wastes produced in sugar industry are mainly bagasse, press mud, molasses and boiler ash. Bagasse is the fiber material left out after extraction of the sugar cane juice. Molasses is the semi fluid mass containing non crystalline sugar and other impurities, obtained as mother liquor from centrifuge after recovery of crystalizable Sugar. Boiler ash is un burnt matter left in the boiler furnace after complete burning of bagasse, in addition a small quantity of ETP sludge may be produced in the industry. The quantities of various solid wastes produced is given in table below and their characteristics is given in Annexure.
