2.8      PRODUCTS AND BYPRODUCTS

White sugar is the main product in the industry. However Bagasse, molasses and press mud are also produced as by products in the process, in addition to the electric power.

Bagasse is advantageously used as fuel in the boiler for production of high pressure steam. The later in turn is used in generation of captive power.

Other products viz. Press mud, and molasses which are sold . Press mud is used as manure in agriculture as also in distillery for production of bio-composted manure along with spent wash from distillery. Molasses is used as raw material for manufacture of ethanol. and other products.

2.9      Water System

Water Storage & Treatment

Raw water will be drawn from existing bore well water sources. Make-up DM water requirement for boiler feed will be taken from a single stream 200 M3 /day

DM plant. Make water required for cooling tower is minimum during season and maximum of around 120 m3 /hr in off-season and will be taken from the two stream 3000 nrvVday soft water plant. Alternatively raw water may also be used for CT make-up.

Make-up water will be directly pumped to two nos. storage tanks of 300 m3 capacity each and mainly used as cooling tower make-up.

DM water (Boiler feed water quality) from the DM plant (generally consisting of appropriately sized pressure filter, activated carbon filter, cation and anion exchanges, degassers, mixed bed exchanger cum polishing unit) will be stored in 2 x 100 m3 MS epoxy coated tanks. DM water will only be used for boiler feed water make-up.

Condensate will be received from sugar process into the proposed 250 m3 capacity condensate water tank. Condensate from the latter will be taken to the boiler feed water' tank where it will also receive make-up from DM tank, to maintain its required level.   Water from feed water tank will be pumped td the deaerator storage tank via the deaerator. Deaerator feed water storage tank, minimum storage capacity of equivalent to 10 minutes MCR requirements of the boiler is recommended.
