Chapter 1

Introduction

Chintamani Agro Tech India Ltd. is a public ltd. sugar factory with a stabilized capacity to crush around 3500 tons of cane per day (TCD). The factory is proposed to be located at village Bijora Tal. Mahagaon, Dist. Yawatmal. The mill has targeted 4.5 lakhs ton cane crushing with a normal cane crushing rate of 3500 TCD & achieves peak crushing rates of 4000 TCD.

M/s Chintamani Agro Tech India Ltd. proposed to establish Sugar and 30 MW cogeneration power plant at Bijora Taluka Mahagaon and Dist: Yawatmal in Maharashtra. (CAIL) received a letter of intent from Government of India for establishing 3500 TPD sugar manufacturing plant vide LOI no. F No. 10 (15) / 97 -IP Ministry of Industry Policy and Promotion press note no. 6/12 letter of Intent granted for new units of sugar factory. (CAIL) propose to set up Sugar and 30 MW co-generation plant within their premises.

(CAIL) is a public limited company incorporated under the Indian Companies Act 1956 ( No.1 of 1956) and that the company is limited vide no. U-31101/Mh2001/PLC-133127.

Shri. Nitin Gadkari is the Chairman of (CAIL). He is prominent leader from Vidrabha region and Leader of Opposition Maharashtra State Legislative Council. His family is involved in Business since decade.

(CAIL) has already selected site on the recommendation of the Commissioner of Sugar, Maharashtra State Government, Pune and is approved by the Government of Maharashtra. Moreover, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) issued consent order no BO/ROAMT/YAWATMAL-53/E/CC-65 dated 5/10/2002 to establish sugar factory attheir recommended site at Bijoraa, Tal: Mahagaon and Dist: Yawatmal. Therefore it was thought worth to establish cogeneration plant at same site.

Fully aware of the contribution that (CAIL) can provide to the Renewable Energy Development, (CAIL) has planned to install a Sugar Manufaturing unit (3500TCD) and 30 MW Grid Connected Co-generation Power Plant based on renewable energy sources (Bagasse + cane trash + other biomass), adjacent to the sugar mill complex at (CAIL) at Bijora, Tal. Mahagaon. Dist. Yawatmal. 

(CAIL) has already acquired 106 hectares of land for the proposed sugar manufacturing and cogen project. The proposed site is selected on the recommendation of the Commissioner of Sugar, Maharashtra Government State, notification on environment impact assessment in relation to the thermal power plants by Union Ministry of Environment and Forest   and is approved by the Government of Maharashtra. Site Selection Committee of Maharashtra Government Pollution Control Board (MPCB) visited 4 alternative sites of (CAIL).
