Executive Summary

M/s Chintamani Agro Tech India Ltd.. (CAIL), Yawatmal is managed by highly progressive farmers. They proposes to establish Sugar plant (3500TCD) and 30 MW Cogeneration Power Plant at Bijora, Talegaon, Tal. Mahagaon, Dist: Yawatmal, Maharahstra.

With the liberalized industrial policy and globalization the Indian Industries including sugar Industries are facing tough competition. The cost of sugarcane, which is the main raw material is remaining constant. The price of sugar has come down by 25% during last two years. Sugar industries generate quantities of waste products such as bagasse. This waste products can be used as valuable material for production of power, alcohol and bio-manure. Sugar industries have to manufacture these value added co-product for their survival and economic feasibility.

The success of co-generation technology has become a boon to sugar industries where power is produced from bagasse along-with low pressure process steam required for the sugar unit. Surplus power from the co-generation sugar unit propose to export to public distribution system after meeting its captive requirement. The economy of sugar industry therefore improves with the addition of co-generation power unit.

Hence the main objective of (CAIL) is not only to set up cogen units but also to provide better remunerative prices to sugarcane. The local farmers are promoted for sugarcane cultivation programmes on commercial basis for converting the area self sufficient as regards to the electricity requirements.

Shri. Nitin Gadkari is the Chairman of (CAIL). The prominent leader and leader of opposition of Maharashtra State Legislative Council. His family is involved in business since 20 years.

(CAIL) has already selected site on the recommendation of the Commissioner of Sugar, Maharashtra State Government, Pune and is approved by the Government of Maharashtra. Moreover, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) issued consent order no BO/ROAMT/YAWATMAL-53/E/CC-65 - dated 5/10/2002 to establish sugar factory at their recommended site at Bijoraa, Tal: Mahagaon and Dist: Yawatmal. Therefore it was thought worth to establish cogeneration plant at same site.
